Track: Embedded Software Development
Format: 50-Minute Technical Session
Audience Level: Intermediate
Recording: TBD

Software development and debugging of heterogeneous devices present extra challenges as two or more operating systems are running in parallel and inter-processor communication is required to exchange data.

This presentation introduces typical configurations of an Arm heterogeneous device and describes the software development requirements from development tools to software libraries.

We will look how multi-core debug tools allow to independently debug both RTOS and Linux system at the same time as well as various techniques that can be used for inter-processor communication such as OpenAMP.

Finally, we will explore future evolutions of heterogenous devices and new software platforms.

Takeaway

- Understanding of the architecture of heterogeneous devices and complexity of software development
- Use of multi-core debug tools and inter-processor communication libraries such as OpenAMP
- Evolution of heterogeneous devices and new software platforms
